Historique :	Cette cloche fut donnée à la paroisse Saint-Maixent de Fontaine-Chalendray par Louis IV de Montbron, baron de Fontaine-Chalendray, époux d'Helyette de Vivonne fille du grand sénéchal de Saintonge, pour remplacer l'ancienne cloche nommée Sarrazine brisée par les bandes de La Noue Bras de fer, chef huguenot ; à la Révolution, la municipalité refusa de l'envoyer à la fonte, la conservant pour sonner le tocsin et convoquer les citoyens aux assemblées primaires.
